Dewey's Ordeal

Well Dewey had quite the weekend, let us tell you!! We've noticed this past week that Dewey has seemed more than a little lethargic when we're around. He's been taking 2 hour naps, sometimes back-to-back with very little playing in between. Andrew wasn't too worried, but I wanted to play it safe. So Saturday we packed him up in his carrier and took him to Petsmart. They got him right in, and checked him over while the vet talked to us. They told us that they would need to do a fecal test to see if there were any worms or other parasites in his intestines causing him to be lethargic. They also were concerned about some areas underneath his fur, which they determined to be ringworm. He had ringworm before we got him, but we were assured he'd been treated and was clear. This did NOT turn out to be the case, it was in several spots around the original area.

So we left him there for an hour so they could examine him and get their tests done. He apparently got one girl on the palm pretty good, and a sweet nurse said they finally just let him go for a minute, she went and calmed him down, and they finished what they needed to. I was SO GLAD that we didn't have to be there for the fecal test (sticking something up his little behind to get a sample...you can imagine why he hissed and bit people!), it was sad to have to leave him with strangers doing funky things to him. But they said there were no worms or parasites, and he may just be tired because he's still a growing boy. So we're going to keep an eye on him and make sure he gets equal amounts of play time along with all of his long naps!

We came home with a special shampoo to bathe him in three times a week, as well as a topical medication for his current ringworm areas. The full-body bath is just to make sure to "put out other wildfires" and make sure we get everything.

We did our first bath this afternoon. And I have to say, the little guy did REALLY, REALLY well! He got Andrew good with one of his claws, and I got a scratch or two, but he didn't freak out, he stayed relatively still, even when we were blow-drying him.

We don't have to put him through it again until Tuesday, and he has a re-check with the vet on the 22nd to see how he looks. Not long after that he'll be getting more shots and getting neutered, so it's not going to be a fun couple of weeks for Dewey! Poor baby!!

My coworker, Sheri, gave me this hanging set of mesh "shelves" she had stored away. It is usually meant to hold children's toys, but Dewey uses it as his own playground. He loves it!!

He's the most wonderful kitty ever, Andrew and I are nuts about him. Dewey likes to sleep on the blanket on the back of our couch while we're sitting there watching TV. Andrew and I have a hard time not petting him and talking about how perfect he is whenever he's sitting there napping, hahaha! He's so cute!!!!!!

So Dewey had a bit of a stressful weekend, but we're making sure to give him tons of love and attention (not that he's not already getting it anyways!) so he doesn't have too rough a time.

Friday night, Andrew and I finally were able to go on our Margarita Crawl!! We'd been waiting a few weeks to make sure everyone we wanted to come would be able to be there. Turns out we picked a bad weekend, though, because all but three people bowed out for other things. We were disappointed to miss a chance to hang out and have some drinks with our closest friends, but we had a good time anyways. Eric, Erika, and Sheri (along with her date) joined us at Uncle Julio's and Cantina Laredo to compare the margaritas and see who did it better. Andrew was convinced Uncle Julio's made the better margarita, but I knew Cantina Laredo would knock 'em dead. And I wasn't wrong, we ALL agreed that Cantina Laredo made a much stronger, and much tastier, margarita! So much fun!

Then Saturday night, we had a LONG overdue date night. We went shopping at Stonebriar Mall for awhile that afternoon (after giving Dewey's tons of time with us after his vet visit). Andrew got some new shirts, and I bought some books at Barnes and Noble. Then we hit Half-Price Books and got some more books for me (I've decided to start the Twlight series and see how it goes...) and we got some really great cookbooks to try out. Then we went and saw "Funny People", Adam Sandler's newest movie. Definitely not just funny, there's a very serious plot line as well. And a lot of cursing, a lot of dirty language. So if you can get past the fact that there is a bunch of crude dialogue (which didn't bother us, the movie was great!), then I recommend you all go see this movie!

We've spent the entire day at home, haven't left to go anywhere, so we're VERY much enjoying the lazy day. I hope that you all are doing the same! Have a great week!
